Friends of St Andrew’s Congresbury
Launched in January 2002, the Friends of St Andrew’s Congresbury contribute towards the costs of maintaining and caring for the Church, the Refectory and associated buildings and grounds. Increasing expenditure, added to by grade 1 listed status, meant it was no longer practical to expect the church congregation to bear the cost of these buildings alone.
These ancient buildings form the nucleus of Congresbury, with great pride in the village for the tradition and heritage that they embody, considered unique in North Somerset. While residents may attend weekly youth groups or services, or just a one off special occasion, preserving them for future generations is all important. The Friends of St. Andrew’s represents a means of becoming involved in that future.
Over the years, thousands of pounds have been raised in several ways:
- Given by annual/monthly or one-off donations
- With the bonus of Gift Aid for tax payers
- (white envelopes at the back of the Church)
- Boosted by fund raising activities (annual village fete in June, orchestral and choral concerts in Church)
This has enabled and contributed towards essential repairs to the Refectory porch, church office conversion of the old stable block, ironwork painting and improved lighting.
