Agape Meal to accompany this week’s live stream

On Sunday during the live streamed service at 10.30, streamed from our Facebook page, Matt would like to encourage us to share in an Agape meal to emulate what most likely happened on the road to Emmaus, the story we have been looking at in the blog this week.

To take part, you will need to gather together a few items:-

  • A candle
  • Some bread
  • Grapes or a piece of fruit
  • A glass of water

Matt will be circulating some accompanying liturgy tomorrow.

If you’ve not joined us for the live service before or do not have Facebook, don’t worry. You do not need to be a Facebook user to access our page – the link above will take you straight there. Alternatively, the service will be posted on this page later in the day.

2. Meditation on the Cross:
Allegri’s “Miserere Mei” – there is nothing like it to reflect upon the beauty, the hope and the overcoming of love over death upon the Cross:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX1zicNRLmY

Alternative:
“You raised me up” – West Life **(PLEASE BE AWARE FOR CHILDREN – THIS HAS SOME VERY STRONG SCENES OF THE CRUCIFIXION – PLEASE CHECK YOU’RE HAPPY FIRST)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sza4rh1YzsM

3. Hymn of the victory of Jesus upon the Cross:
“When I survey the Wonderous Cross”

A modern day “real life” personal account of walking the Via Dolorosa on a Friday with the Franciscan Pilgrimage, visiting the holy sites (always leaves me with very mixed emotions):

As posted last week: Films to watch over these few days:
“The Passion” – by the BBC (not to be confused with “The Passion” by Mel Gibson – which is pretty violent). One of the best films to depict the events of Holy Week.
“Jesus of Nazareth” – an epic, and a bit dated now, but Robert Powell as Jesus and Lawrence Olivier as Nicodemus are amazing.
“The Case for Christ” – a true story looking at the life of a reporter who sets out to discover if the resurrection is true.
“Mary Magdalene” – a recent film that spoke up for Mary’s role in the whole story of Jesus and saw the life of Jesus from her point of view. Backed up by recent archaeological discoveries.
“The Shack” – a recent film looking fictionally at where God is in suffering. Based on the bestselling book of the same name.

Something, hopefully, for everyone.
